Just Because - Somebody took a lot of time to do this

by omgwtf 15. April 2009 09:52

I know people who mess around in Halo 3 a lot... playing forge and whatnot. But I have never seen something like this and it made me laugh. Very nice, very nice. Enjoy... happy Wednesday!

Joystiq vs. Bungie

by omgwtf 13. April 2009 10:55

So, some users from Joystiq played the guys over at Bungie (the developers of Halo) in a Halo 3 Mythic Challenge. And the outcome... there are a few versions... so you'll have to look at them yourself. But it's pretty amusing, and the guys from Joystiq got Recon Armor. I am so jealous. I want Recon... Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Here's what Joystiq has to say about what went down: Joystiq.

And here's what Bungie has to say about the outcome: Bungie.

You can make up your own mind about who won the challenge. I suck at Halo... but I do enjoy it, and I enjoy a good video.

Giutar Hero: Metallica - ugh

by omgwtf 21. March 2009 10:06

As previously mentioned, video games where you play fake instruments are stupid.

But now Metallica has one! Guitar Hero: Metallica will hit shelves March 29th.

Lars Ulrich, Metallica drummer, said "When 'Guitar Hero' came to us in April of last year, we said yes very quickly. It seemed like the next step - a whole other platform for musicians to reach an audience. If we talk about this in five years, I think it will turn into an expected way to release an album."

I hope not. Releasing an album via plastic "wish I could really play" guitar?! Again. No. And ew.

Guitarist Kirk Hammett said "Kids get a feel of what it's like to play a song on guitar without having to learn to play guitar - how cool is that?"

Ummm... not very cool. I know! Let's make sure our kids never actually have to learn to do anything! That way they can all be lazy and obnoxious little punks forever! Sweetness!

Stewart vs. Cramer - on your Xbox!

by omgwtf 18. March 2009 13:54

This is just too funny!

James Ransom-Wiley writes on joystiq.com:

In the most lopsided victory since Boll vs. Kyanka, Jon Stewart took on Jim Cramer last week in The Daily Show ring and -- spoiler alert -- humbled the CNBC Mad Money host in a technically brilliant, 22-minute ass whoopin'. This instant classic is now available in its "unedited" (warning: F-bomb dropping) entirety on the US Xbox Live Video Marketplace -- free for Gold subscribers.

Note: The video content (257 MB) is only accessable through the console and isn't queueable from the Xbox.com Marketplace.

Will you be downloading this tonight?!

Amazon.com welcoming game trade-ins

by omgwtf 6. March 2009 11:12

Smartness on their part.

Amazon.com is starting to welcome game trade-ins, which is a very smart move in my opinion. They're doing it for major gaming systems... Xbox360, Wii, Playstation, even the portable gaming systems like Nintendo DS and the like. You go through, find the system you want to make the trade-in for, click and follow the instructions.

With all the avid gamers out there, I think this is smart. The question is, can Amazon compete? GameStop - just go and the trade-in is instant. Gamefly - point and click and the game shows up at your house. Will people find Amazon's send, wait, receive method worth the time? Not so sure they will, but we'll see, eh?

Check it out here.

The Rock Band video game getting The Beatles

by omgwtf 5. March 2009 11:49

Really? Ok, in regards to games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero and the like... EW.

I was at the GameStop with my husband the other day, and there was some little punk there with his little fake guitar thing, hair dyed a hideous shade of bright yellow (not blonde, YELLOW), being an ass to his grandmother and just acting like an all around fool. I turned to my husband and whispered "If our kids turn out like that, kick me in the face." Those are the kids playing these stupid games. LEARN TO PLAY THE GUITAR FOR REAL!

Anyway, if The Beatles want to join the parade of idiots and put their stuff out in a Rock Band game, by all means... I'm not really a fan of them anyway. So, the game, from MTV Games, will be available for Xbox360, Playstation 3, and the Wii. No word yet on which Beatles songs will be included, but this is apparently the first time one of the Rock Band games has been based on just one group.

In a statement from MTV Games, they said "As we moved through the creative process, it just seemed to make sense to clearly highlight the association between The Beatles game and the critically acclaimed Rock Band franchise. The game is being developed by Harmonix and will utilize and build upon the core foundation of Rock Band to create a brand new and innovative Beatles experience."

Don't want a new and innovative Beatles experience. But thanks anyway. Will you buy this? Are you one of those punks who won't bother to actually learn to play a real instrument?!

PlayStation caused lesions? Gross.

by omgwtf 24. February 2009 14:10

A 12-year-old girl when to the Geneva hospital with severely painful lesions on her hands. She had developed the lesions 4 weeks prior to her visit. She didn't have any lesions anywhere else. Doctors asked her a bunch of questions and found out that right before developing the lesions, the girl started playing a game on her PlayStation for several hours a day... causing the lesions.

The scientists studying this phenomenon called it "PlayStation palmar hidradentitis", a skin disorder that can cause the lesions on the hands that are similar to some found on the soles of kids' feet after they partake in heavy physical activity.

Vincent Piguet and colleagues at the University Hospitals and Medical School of Geneva wrote a report for the British Journal of Dermatology saying "The tight and continuous grasping of the hand-grips together with repeated pushing of the buttons produce minor but continuous trauma to the [palm] surfaces."

A spokesman for Sony noted that the study involved only one patient. Point taken. Of course, even if it involved many patients, would they really want to admit their product can cause lesions? Because that's pretty nasty and not a very good advertising campaign.

David Wilson, spokesman for Sony said "As with any leisure pursuit there are possible consequesces of not following common sense, health advice and guidelines, as can be found within our instruction manuals. We would not wish to belittle this research and we will study the findings with interest, but this is the first time we have ever heard of a complaint of this nature."

Really? There's health advice in the PlayStation instruction manual? Does anyone have a copy? Is there really? I'd love to see it!

Halo Wars - will it be as big as Halo 3?

by omgwtf 24. February 2009 13:46

The people over at Microsoft sure hope so!

GameStop is hosting pre-launch Halo Wars tournaments at about 1,000 locations. The winner of the tournament will receive a copy of Halo Wars Limited Collector's Edition and a t-shirt.

Halo Wars is a strategy game for Xbox 360, allowing players to control large armies and direct them in warfare.

I love Halo 3. And I love Xbox (aside from the few instances of red lights and rings of death and such). But I have no interest in this game. To me, it sounds like Milton Bradley's Risk, but with Halo Spartans and Elites.

Anyway, if you have interest in being in one of these tournaments and winning the collector's edition of Halo Wars rather than paying the $80 for it, contact your local GameStop. Fun fun fun!
