NYC's Naked Cowboy... for Mayor???

by omgwtf 23. July 2009 11:03

Oh yeah... that's right. New York City's Naked Cowboy (Robert Burck) is running as a write-in candidate against Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Burck said "I know how to do more with less ... You're not going tobe seeing me buying a whole new suit because I'm running for mayor. Not on the city's dime ... Being naked is a whole lot more than having no clothes on. It's about transparency in politics, it's about telling the naked truth."

Wednesday Burck listed off some of the things he would do as mayor... energy efficiency (apparently the guy doesn't use AC), taxi call buttons on street corners (which would actually be pretty awesome), and $10,000 loans to 1,000 small businesses at no interest (umm... wonder how that'd work). He also wants to build a Times Square chapel, where both straight and gay couples could mary in a "billion-dollar wedding business that will rival Las Vegas." Burck does have a degree in political science from the University of Cincinnati, so I suppose that could come in handy.

So, where is he getting funding for his campaign? Aside from the fact that he makes quite a bit of cash standing on the street in his cowboy boots, hat, and undies playing the guitar, Burck said "I have no expenses. I own 40 pairs of underwear, a car and a suitcase."

Well, good luck to you dude.

Oh great... Federal deficit up to $1 TRILLION

by omgwtf 13. July 2009 20:18

Yeah. For the first time EVER. Wonderful. Great. Super.

This comes after all the money the government spent trying to get the U.S. OUT of the recession. This could make people question the value of the dollar and it could make foreign buyers of our debt a little nervous, causing them to think twice, and possibly not be willing to put their money out there for the U.S. anymore.

Hm. This SUPER SUCKS.

Read more about what exactly is going on with this. Everyone should be informed and understand all the political and economic goings on in this country. Educate yourself!

Sarah Palin resigned

by omgwtf 7. July 2009 10:29

I know, I know. Everyone already knows this. But, I'm saying it again anyway.

I just hope that she didn't resign as a way to be able to focus more on running for President in the future, because that would make me vomit. She is super annoying.

But good for her that she's going to spend some time with her family at home, instead of spending time with them traveling all over the place on Alaska's dime. Good call.

Honduras - new President...??

by omgwtf 29. June 2009 09:49

As I mentioned before, Honduran President Zelaya has been dealing with some issues. Like that Congress appointed another President, Roberto Micheletti. President Manuel Zelaya said he was going to finish out his term, which would end in January, but Congress had other ideas.

Zelaya is internationally recognized as the President of Honduras, though it is Micheletti who is backed by the country's congress, courts and military. This is the first military coup in Central America in about 16 years. And currently, Presidents from around Latin America are gathering in Nicaragua for meetings to discuss how to resolve this coup. The European Union has also offered to help with talks between the two sides.

Eurpoean governments, along with the Obama administration, denounced the coup, but Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has another thought on it. Chavez said "If the oligarchies break the rules of the game as they have done, the people have the right to resistance and combat, and we are with them."

Let me quickly explain a bit about one of the issues here. Current President Zelaya was calling for a referendum, which others claimed was his attempt to stay in power longer than the current Honduran constitution limit of one 4-year presidential term. Zelaya's opponents were afraid he would use the referendum results to try to run again... much like Chavez reformed his country's constitution in order to seek repeated re-elections. So, that is where much of this current strife comes from... Zelaya's term is almost over, he's not all that popular, and people are thinking he's trying to figure out a way to be re-elected.

It is everyone's hope that this can be resolved peacefully. So, we'll see what happens... we will be keeping an eye on this.

Obama speaks on Energy Bill

by omgwtf 28. June 2009 13:23

And it passed the House! Barely... it was a 219 to 212 vote in the House this past Friday. Now for the Senate. Senate passage of this bill is much less certain, but we're crossing our fingers. C'mon America! Get with it! WE HAVE TO PASS THIS BILL! We HAVE to cut our dependence on foreign oil and coal! NOW is the time! We have to clean up our act and fix this problem... we can't leave this one for our kids and grandkids to deal with... that's just not fair!

Who's in charge in Honduras?

by omgwtf 28. June 2009 13:09

That would be the question.

Honduran President Manuel Zelaya claims he was the victim of "a coup" and a "brutal kidnapping" by soldiers. Carlos Enrique Reina told The Associated Press that Zelaya was taken into military custody at his house outside Tegucigalpa and whisked away to an air force base on the outskirts of the city.

The detention of Zelaya comes just before voting was set to beging on a constitutional referendum. One that Zelaya insisted on holding, despite the fact that the Supreme Court had ruled it was illegal. Everyone from Congress to the military, and even members of his own party had opposed it.

In a statement, President Obama said "I am deeply concerned by reports coming out of Honduras regarding the detention and expulsion of President Mel Zelaya. As the Organization of American States did on Friday, I call on all political and social actors in Honduras to respect democratic norms, the rule of law and the tenets of the Inter-American Democratic Charter."

So, what's going on in Honduras? How will this play out? Hopefully peacefully, but I doubt it. Supporters of Zelaya were seen today throwing rocks at the soldiers surrounding the air force base calling out "Traitors!", so only time will tell how this will end...

Climate bill debate

by omgwtf 26. June 2009 11:59

So, the debate on the climate bill begins in the House today. This would be the first bill to limit greenhouse gases and start to move us away from our dependence on fossil fuels. Though the Republicans are calling this bill "the largest tax increase in American history." Hm. I think the overall health of the planet is something that should be of higher concern than a little money. Don't you?

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this historic bill? Do you think it will pass at some point? Experts are saying that regulating greenhouse gases here in the US is the only way to somewhat stop/possibly start to reverse the incredible damage it has done to our planet. And other countries who have not set such standards already may follow suit if we hurry up and take that action. This is a hotly debated topic and being that greenhouse gases really do a number on the Earth, something really does need to be done. So let's get a move on here people!

Openly gay male elected PROM QUEEN

by omgwtf 29. May 2009 11:15

See California?! THE NEXT GENERATION DOESN'T CARE about orientation!

Sergio Garci was crowned queen Saturday night at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel... AWESOMENESS!

Garcia said "I feel invincible," when he was wearing his rhinestone tiara.

Prior to prom, Garcia said "I'm not your typical prom queen candidate. There's more to me than meets the eye. ... I will be wearing a suit. But don't be fooled, deep down I am a queen."

Garcia also told KTLA's Jaime Chambers "I don't wish to be a girl. I just with to be myself. Beign prom queen has changed my life and inspired the lives of other students, who are like me."

Awesomeness! Power to you, dude!

By the way... here are some comments from some people that they posted in reponse to the article on KTLA. These people make me sick. And it makes me angry. These are the assholes who are fucking up progress in this country. Thoughts?!

  • only in california, morons. why doesnt the prom king give the prom queen a big ol' kiss in front of the whole school.

    jimbo P @ 3:10 AM PDT, May 29, 2009

  • Next year put a Tiara on a goat. does it say the winner must be human?

    Joe @ 2:36 AM PDT, May 29, 2009

  • You people in California are sick. When you should be trying to eliminate such homosezual behaviour you encourage it. The school is at fault for allowing this kind of choice by the students. Its absolutly disgusting, what a role model you have set.

California Sucks

by omgwtf 26. May 2009 21:00

As you all know, the California Supreme Court made the decision today to uphold Proposition 8, meaning that the California Supreme Court seems to think that gays and lesbians shouldn't be treated the same as everyone else.

Honestly, I think that's bullshit. If two PEOPLE want to get married, then they should be legally allowed to do so. Really. I just don't see why everyone thinks this is such a big deal. Once things are passed into law, it becomes a non-issue. Take a woman's right to vote. BIG DEAL until the Nineteenth Amendment. Hello! Are people forgetting that was only 88 years ago. And now? Now it's no big deal... nobody even thinks twice about women voting, and nobody's questioned it in a long time. So the states need to just shut it, let everyone be equal, and get over this issue. If all the states passed the laws (or we ammended the Consitution), then in 10 years, nobody will even consider it a hot topic anymore. We just need to get over this hump people.

And might I add the whole California thing? California claims to be a relaxed and progressive state. Personally, I think California is holding us back. California is the one state that's had, by far, THE MOST gay marriage coverage out of all the states. So them upholding Prop 8 is also holding back the rest of the country. The California Supreme Court needs to step up and fix this. ASAP.

We need to get through the bullshit and just make it full on equality, nation wide. Enough is enough. Everyone deserves to have the same rights as everyone else. That's what this country is all about, and right now, we're losing sight of that. Full equality. ASAP. Is what this country needs.
