Honestly, it's hard for me to address this topic because it pisses me off to no end that people can be so stupid. I am all for having faith and believing in the God of your choice, but FAITH IS FOR THE HOME. SCIENCE IS FOR THE SCHOOLS.
The case of science versus idiots is being voted on at some point this week, so I'm guessing tomorrow, as the week's almost over. The issue up right now is the language currently being used in the science curriculum requiring teachers to address the "strengths and weaknesses" of scientific theory. This is so stupid. It's a THEORY, not 100%, but so damn close it's not even funny.
Kathy Miller (president of the Texas Freedom Network) said "In science education, 'weaknesses' has become a code word in the culture wars to attack evolution and promote creationism. If it weren't, we wouldn't see this crusade by some of the board members and outside pressure groups to keep this single word in the science standars."
Ummm.. yeah. Creationists piss me off. Read the freaking evidence, you half-wits. Seriously. You're turning your children into the poor saps who will be laughed out of college level science classes. It makes no sense. I know, it may sound harsh, but you creationists can't even get your story straight... at least people who know evolution to be fact only have one story... The Bible, on the other hand has TWO CREATION STORIES! Freaking read the book you claim to live by before telling the world that evolution is crap. Really.
Is it possible that we came from the extra planet the Sumerian's had in their universe randomly dropped us off? Sure! Who knows... really, interesting to think about. The planet is called Niviru and it only comes by every 3600 years... heard of it? Yeah, maybe the people on that planet are the ones who dropped us off. To be honest, it could be really crazy if the Sumerians were correct. If they dropped a few people off, it would explain people in The Bible living 700 years or so, because their years are WAY LONGER than ours. It would be nutty and it would throw us all off - everything we know would be turned up-side-down.
Obviously, I'm open to a lot of things. But creationism in the form of creation of man from dust and woman from man's rib is just ridiculous to me. I really would love to see the random 12th planet of the Sumerian's though. Interesting.
**NOTE: I am fully aware of the fact that this post jumps around and makes little sense in the way of a full argument for the deltion of "weakness" from curriculum (which was the original intent), but I got to thinking while I was writing this and it creates more openings for discussions and contemplation, so I'm not freaking changing it to be one perfect little rant about the curriculum in Texas. I don't live in Texas anyway. And the Sumerians are way more interesting than Texans (no offense).
