The European Commission has opened an investigation regarding Microsoft's bundling of its Web browser into the Windows operating system. The investigation is to figure out if Microsoft has stifled competition and innovation by doing this. European regulators, in initial findings, have concluded that Microsoft has given its browser unfair advantages, which has been in violation of Eurpoean law since 1996.
Microsoft has to respond by late March. This investigation could force Microsoft to detach Internet Explorer from Windows.
Google and Firefox are both backing up the European Commission (duh) in this investigation.
A VP of Google said in his blog yesterday (Tuesday) "Creating a remedy that helps solve one problem without creating other unintended consuquences isn't easy - but the more voices there are in the conversation the greater the chances of success."
